Lunji Estate is a coffee farm in the southern highlands of Tanzania. With an altitude of around 1,600 metres above sea level, fertile soil and a suitable microclimate, the best conditions for growing one of the highest quality African Arabica coffees have been met for decades. The coffee won a "Coffee of the year-award" in London in 2013 and has won several important awards over the last few years. The farm is located directly at the foot of the 2,839m high Mbeya Peak, the top of the Mbeya Range mountain chain. The view of this imposing colossus in the middle of the mountain range and the remarkable variety of plants and animals give Lunji a breathtaking ambience. Lunji is a medium-sized coffee plantation with 30 employees and up to 150 helpers who find work on the plantation at harvest time. The farm has been run by Clemens and Stella Maier for over 20 years and operates legally as a partnership between Clemens Maier, who is of German descent, and Thomas Plattner, who is Swiss. In addition to coffee, Lunji is also home to avocados, apples, chickens, pigs and a wide variety of fruit and vegetables.
